hello MFP Community. I am interested in juicing. I've never done it and would like to know your thoughts on the subject? Do you like it? Do you see a difference in your weight and health? Also would like some tips to juicing? Recipes? Hope you are all well and maybe gain some friendship support while I'm here! Be fit, be healthy, be strong...

I would never juice as my sole source of nutrients. I like chewing my food. Drinking veg juice makes me hangry because I'm never able to consume enough in a sitting (without also getting a stomachache) to satisfy my hunger.
Plus juicing (if you do it at home) seems to take massive amounts of produce, prep, and cleaning. Buying fresh juices at your local juice company is also expensive. The one close to me charged $6-8 for a 16oz bottle. If I had the recommended 6 juices a day this becomes a very pricey habit. I still like to buy their cashew juice because it's delicious.
But really if you're interested in this then go ahead and pursue it. I think we all need to try things out and figure out what works best for us.0 -
Buy a mixer like Vitamix or Ninja instead.
Drink that fiber... don't throw it away.0 -
Is there a specific reason you only want to have the juice? What about using a Nutribullet or something similar? Juicing eliminates the fiber (unless you add it back) and is basically pointless because there are still calories, but limited nutritional value. Plus as @jkhoffe mentioned they are a pain to clean where most of the "bullet" style blenders are fairly easy to clean.0

Hi! I bought a juicer (a cheepie to try it out) about 2 months ago. I LOVE IT!!! I have juice for breakfast 6 days a week, and lunch about 3 days a week. It is delicious (turns out i really enjoy kale juice??!!??) I do add a scoop of protein powder to it to help make it more satiable. I think it has boosted my immune system and aided in my weightless.
The negatives -
pain in the rear to clean that thing every day
gets a bit spendy
takes out most of the fiber of the foods, so be careful how much fruit you put in. The fiber is what help your body digest the sugar in fruit instead of storing it as fat...
I usually put some of the pulp back into my glass to try to help with the whole fiber thing
I really like - Carrot, Kale, Grape, Pineapple and Ginger - But to be honest, I usually just throw in whatever I have on hand and it turns out awesome - Peppers are really good in it

I used to have an industrial sized juicer at my old house where I put veggies and fruits through the top and it grinded it all up, even the seeds and skin! Then wrap it in towels and mash the juice out in to a cup. I got rid of it and miss it terribly. I loved making a green juice that had cucumbers, green apples, lemon and ginger. It made me feel great! But yes, it was a HUGE ordeal to keep it clean and the towels you use to mash out the stuff had to be washed and kept in the freezer so they didn't grow bacteria on them.0

Thank you all for your input. All valid points. I forget about the fiber being removed when you juice. All I know is as a cancer survivor I'm open to trying new healthy choices. I actually have a ninja that I use to make smoothies so I guess there really isn't a difference. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. Add me to your friends list if you would like. Be fit, be healthy, be strong...0

Do you have a juicer? If not, check Craigslist first. People tend to give up on juicers quick.
You can also make juice with your blender. Pour it into a fine mesh strainer.0 -

Thank you guys! Dumb question. Do you use water when using a vitamix or ninja? Juice? Ice?0
