As others have said, Aldi and Lidl are excelent for fruit and veg - my mum says its better quality than the stuff in M&S (and she is picky!)

And do try growing some - raspberries are especially good to grow, as they are one of the most expensive in the shops. Stick the canes in the ground, cut them down, then you might get a couple of berries next year but generally they really take off the followng year (as they mostly fruit on the previous year's growth). If you don't have a garden, strawberries can be grown in tubs or even hanging baskets.

Definitely look in your local greengrocer if you can.
And maybe see if there are pick your own fields around you? around my parts you can go in and get a few containers worth for £ 7 - £8. And then freeze them to make them last longer

Try popping to Tesco or Marks or somewhere really late - when they mark it all down to stupidly cheap prices

Yep, the key is to suss out when these shops mark down their perishables. Marks even reduces their sandwiches to 10-50p, and their bread loaves to 10-50p. Asda is another one that has markdowns. Usually it is around 7/7.30pm for marks, and 4-5pm at Asda, same for Tesco.

As others have mentioned, LidL and Aldi may be the shops to go for. If you buy fresh fruit or vegetables out of there, they don't tend to keep as long as the produce from the supermarkets. But to eat that day or the next, they are much cheaper!
