Swimming for weight loss

So my knees are destroyed and I'm not allowed any high intensity cardio / running etc. My physio advised me to do swimming. Luckily I have a pool, so I've decided I'm gonna swim to lose weight.
- Has anyone here lost weight through swimming?
- How long should I aim to swim for?
- Any tips ?
- Can I do anything else but just walking and swimming in the pool?
I'm really out of ideas and I'm finding it so boring...I do not last more than 30 mins.

I sadly don't have access to a swim anymore, but years ago I had great success swimming. One piece of advise I will give is get a tape measure and take your measurements. I lost almost six inches off my hips before I ever saw the scale go down.0

I am losing weight while swimming. My advice? If you don't have good technique in all 4 strokes get some lessons and use them to mix up your workouts. You also seem to get more hungry after swimming so takes a bit of willpower not to overeat the next day. I love swimming, enjoy0

Might want to look at some of these as well... make sure to have some energizing music and have fun!
(if possible, build up to using some weights)
