Hello,
I screwed up my knee after doing insanity last week, so I've been swimming since then. I have (illotibial band synd most likely) bad right knee.

I have access to a gym and I'd like to start working out there. I obviously can't run or do anything high intensity.

Please advice on what workouts I should do for extra cardio at the gym as I have a lot of weight to lose (20lb) keeping my band knee in mind (I don't wanna make the problem worse)

Thanks

My personal opinion is you should take it easier and take time to heal. I saw on another post you said you want to lose over 2 lbs a week. 20 lbs is not a lot, it's in fact very little and you should aim to lose 0.5-1 lbs a week max. Didn't you decide to 'pace' yourself? Swimming is great exercise, don't think you need more for now. While your knee is bad just focus on your eating...it's the biggest part of weigh loss either way. And yeah, relax :)

Are you sure that your knee injury is IT band? Have you seen an orthopedist? Because if the injury is not IT band and is, say, ACL, then swimming is not the right type of exercise (open kinetic chain versus closed kinetic chain) for you right now.

    Forget cardio. Lift weights instead,

I injured my knee about 3 weeks ago. I took off working our for 10 days and just watched my food intake. I am back. Don't exercise on an injury, not even swimming. I am a runner, still training for the half on May 1st.
