I have peppermint oil that I sprinkle on a tissue on my desk. It really helps.

That sounds really miserable. I love foods, home made is awesome. Have you considered counting your calories and eating things you enjoy? I make a great lasagna, freeze it into serving sizes, so that I have a ready made lunch, just add some veggies. I can have a great meal for 300-400 calories and feel full and my taste buds are happy.

I haven't really thought of doing that just cuz my biggest problems are portioning and picking what's right to eat, example when my wife makes spaghetti I will eat til I can't move haha with the nutri system it only gives me a certain amount of food then all I have to do is stay away from the rest but once I can stop being a glutton I will try to move on to better things!

I understand. My first few weeks involved a lot of hunger, but it got easier as my stomach got used to the idea that my body should still be able to move after I eat. It also helped to take some time to experiment with what foods helped me feel full. I like protein and fat to keep me full longer, and veggies to give the full stomach feeling. Personally, I think it's better to adapt your current habits to fit the new ones that you hope will become your life long changes. So maybe take half the serving of spaghetti, and then load up a plate of veggies, so you are still full with fewer calories. Best of luck, whatever you decide to do!

If you are hungry (really hungry, not just craving), you aren't doing it right ;) What are your calorie goal set to, and is it appropriate - what's your height and weight?

You can use the food diary here to practice portion control. You weigh and log your food. You can eat what you like. Hitting your macros every day ensures balance. Get in some fresh fruit and veggies and you have variety. Home cooking will always be better than convenience food, even (or especially) prepackaged "diet" food. Depriving yourself while being tempted is not going to teach you how to "not be a glutton", that's not how the human body and mind works - you are going to be progressively more hungry and hangry, and when you get off that diet, goal reached or not, you will EAT ALL THE THINGS. This is why you often hear that "dieting doesn't work". In reality, it's "diets don't work" - they work well in theory, but not in real life with real people. You'll be doing this for a while, so you need something that you like, or else you won't do it, because temptations are all around us, and they will just get stronger and stronger the more you hold back. Weight management is long term. After hitting goal weight, your new goal is to maintain. This is where most people struggle - many see this as the "end goal" (it isn't), and go back to their old ways. Learning good habits when losing weight, prepares you for maintenance.

If you find it difficult to figure out how much you should eat for each meal, you can get help online. Google "the plate model". In short: Use a 9' plate and fill half of it with vegetables, and the other half equally with meat/fish and starch. Try to stick to one portion. If you are hungry after that, wait, 20 minutes before you go for seconds. Satiety takes some time to "hit".

I just find the smell of the peppermint overpowers all the other food smells. Having a peppermint candy could do the same thing.
