Hi,
My name is Rachel, I'm 44 and fat! My start weight on the 28th March 2016 was 27st 12lbs, mammoth I know, it makes it all the more daunting when it’s so much to lose and believe me, I have tried before but something seems to have clicked this time.
When I was in my teens, I was so active, there wasn’t really one day of the week where I wasn’t cycling, swimming, doing Karate and skiing (when there was snow lol!). Once I moved away from my hometown tho, all that changed. I had my 2 daughters, aged 18 and 23 and kept on piling on the weight, year by year.
I’m really good at losing weight, over the years I’ve probably lost as much as I weigh now, but I have always put it back on because I have had a HUGE problem with self-discipline. In the past, I have always been a bit gung-ho to say the least, its either all or nothing and that’s where the problem lay. I craved what I couldn’t have, I felt deprived, felt like it wasn’t fair and so on. I’ve tried the Cambridge Plan, Lighterlife, Rosemary Conley, Slimming World, Weightwatchers………..
For the last year though, I have been playing around with clean eating and I have found that I really like it, I put much more thought into what I am eating as opposed to the mindless shovelling I have done in the past. I decided just over a week ago to put it to the test for real, to take care of my body as instead of treating it like s**t, I’ll be 45 in October and I don’t want to spend the rest of my life in pain because of my own stupidity and laziness.
I used to shy away from counting calories as I had almost counted them to the point of obsession but I like the way MyFitnessPal is structured, tied in with my Up24 band app, its great to keep on top of things and make better choices like I have today. I was going to eat some salted almonds for my snack but decided to have satsumas instead to save a few calories for later. I know how simple that sounds and that you could be reading that and thinking how obvious that is but believe me, its taken a long time for me to be able to do that!
I’ve only discovered the community today so I’m looking forward to a good read
