Hotel dining at conference

I will be attending 4 day conference and every meal will be a lunch or dinner meeting at the hotel. Lunch will be buffet but dinner will be plated. Is it better calorie wise to ask for vegetarian meals? Not sure how to handle this

Not necessarily. I think hotel catering meals tend to be pretty predictable: salad, bread basket, protein, starch, vegetable, and dessert. The portions tend to be on the small side (compared to restaurant portions I think) so i think that would be manageable.

I would try to do a vinaigrette dressing, avoid the bread basket, and then eat the meal as its served. I would take a peek at the dessert and see if it looked worth the cals and if not, I would opt for wine.

Yeah the vegetarian meals could be coating in oil, sauces, etc. I'd flat out ask the hotel for a menu of what they're preparing for your conference and if they put up any grief, tell them you have dietary needs.

Vegetarian option is gonna be, at least once, cheese and pasta, if history is any indication. So no, not always a healthier choice. I mean, you might be able to call and ask what the plans are, I always do because I don't eat pork, and I rarely have an issue--usually they'll put me in touch with the vents coordinator.

I have been known to take my own salad dressing bottle and plop it at a table at restaurants.
Rarely will they offer a healthy dressing at a conference.
