Frustration Nation!

After a week of tracking diligently and working out every day (higher intensity workouts), not only have I not lost a single pound, but I gained a couple (yay me)! PLEASE, someone talk me off this ledge and tell me this is normal and/or not abnormal! I really want to lose weight the right way, but damn if it's not so frustrating to not see the scale move!

Your body retains water when you start a new workout routine to repair muscles. Take a deep breath. You are OK. Keep on doing the right thing, be patient, and results will come.

Fluctuations are very normal from one day to another. How many times have you weighed yourself?

You're in luck.. this is totally normal! You're probably retaining water from your increase in exercise. Every time I lift heavy, I just expect an increase in the scale. It's no biggie and I know it's not forever.

I personally use a trendapp to record my weight, it shows me my 'trend' is downward even when my scale says otherwise, it keeps me off the 'ledge'.

Also make sure when you're tracking you're weighing and logging your food. You'll learn a ton about portion sizes and 'losing weight the right way'. Furthermore read the stickies... And lastly.. you're in a great place to learn so much. MFP rocks!

People will tell you can't build muscle in a deficit but that is not true, it's just unlikely but if you're a beginner it could be your case. Other options are water retention, and weight is not linear, one week you could gain 2 pounds the next week you could lose 3. Take a month's average by weighing at the same time every day. That will tell you a lot, also measurements are a better way to record progress.

This. If you open your diary up it would be helpful so we can take a peek at it.

Sure, I can do that. Unlocking now.

Oh gosh, the last time I weighed myself was probably 4ish weeks ago. One of my biggest issues is staying consistent with my diet.

What is your height/weight and what do you have your MFP weekly goal set to? 1lb/week? It looks like you just recently made the adjustment so I would give it a couple of more weeks before you freak out.

5'6"/194lbs. MFP weekly goal is set to 1600 calories. I believe that's .5lb/week.

This is probably a big part of your probelm. Also how tall are you? How do you know how many calories your burning working out? I looked at your diary. For this entry, was everything weighed on a digital food scale to know how accurate the calories are on this entry?: Generic - 2 Eggs Scrambled With Cheddar Cheese, 2 egg (50g). Or this entry: Trader Joes - Cooked/frozen Brown Rice Organic, 0.5 Cup (5 oz/142 g), did you weigh the brown rice? I see your also eating over 2k calories some days. How do you know your body is burning over 2k calories? Last saturday you didnt log, did you only eat 520 for breakfast or did you not weigh everything you ate and log? If not you dont know how many calories you really ate for the day. I suspect the inaccurate entries and logging inconsistencies are you biggest problem. Make sure you weigh everything you eat on a digital food scale.

5'6". I use a heart rate monitor when I work out...that's where I'm getting my calories burned. I estimated the scrambled eggs. For the brown rice, I measured it with a 1/2 cup measuring cup. Yeah, last Saturday was a bust :s

Two eggs are 140 calories as the log shows but what about the cheddar cheese in the entry? You could have eaten hundreds of calories in cheddar cheese if you didnt weigh it and didnt add the calories per the weight of the cheddar cheese(which you didnt)_. Dont use measuring cups except for liquids. All solids need to be weighed on a digital scale.
