Help! After such a great, great series of weeks, I've gone over on calories almost every day this week - ice cream, Entenmanns, Chinese food, chips, crap! When I think about why, I realized it's my same m/o. I take care of my elderly parents in my home a few months at a time. I'm about to bring them back to their home in a town where it's hard to walk, buffets all over, their families (in the south) could have better eating habits to say the least. Once I start to think about leaving them there, I get anxious, and not really eat because I'm stressed (even tho i am); it's more like I'm rebelling. I get angry at myself because I feel instead of concentrating on what's important - my parents, their health, etc; I concentrate on my calories, my macros, my measurements, summer is coming, reunion is coming, and I feel vain and ungrateful - no sense of what's a real priority. Maybe since its I just want to lose only 10 pounds. I'm on the road today and will either come back heavier or break this streak! Any tips? Any one else feel that all this calorie counting, logging, takes focus off what's really important - esp with relatively little to lose?

I always see it as why you are supposed to put the mask on your self in the event of losing cabin pressure. You have to take care of your health so you can give your best to your parents. If you have more energy and are feeling good, that positivity will be contagious. I would try to give yourself 30 mins/day to focus on yourself. Read a chapter of a book, go on a walk, and log all your food.0

I'm not sure I understand the post. You're upset because you ate over your calorie goal, or because you're too obsessive counting calories, or both?0

@vivmom2014 - both. I'm eating over goal because I - and this is me psychoanalyzing myself - feel I'm putting too much priority on calorie counting. Does that make sense?0

This is just me personally, so I don't know if it will help, but when I focus 'obsessively' on watching what I eat, weighing every day, monitoring all my exercise...I tend to do better. It's when I stop thinking about health/fitness as much that I go off the wagon. That's actually why I hang out here on the forum quite a bit, I feel like it keeps my head in the game.jandsstevenson887 wrote: »I always see it as why you are supposed to put the mask on your self in the event of losing cabin pressure. me, too - very much so. i also research and browse reviews for fitness equipment when i'm not on MFP, which has the same effect of keeping me involved with the fitness thing.

Hmmm. Well, it's good to have this information about yourself so that you can make changes along the way. Weight loss truly is a whole new world of self-discovery - what works, what doesn't. This is why I'm a big proponent of not rushing things; it takes time to uncover the areas we need to "fix" and time to implement long lasting behavioral changes.
