Which lettuce tastes like dirt?

Wondering if anyone just happens to know. I get a spring mix that I mostly like except for that one random bite...blech.
I know it isn't the red leaves (those are yummy), and not the ones that look are kind of stemmy/ferny looking. So it is probably a non-descript green kind.

It's probably arugula.0

I think radicchio tastes a little rough. It's the red/purple leaf in the mix with white veins.0

Can't say absolutely not on the arugula, but I don't think so. From the pic I found that is the stemmy/ferny looking one.
Don't love the radicchio, but can deal.
This is a definite dirt taste. Only other thing that tastes that much like dirt to me is beets.

I bet it's the chard. It shares a lot of common nutrients with beets and has a taste some people would call "earthy".0

Aha...the green leaves with red stems...one to investigate.
ETA: Yes, I think that's the one. Now to find a mix without it.
Thanks.0 -
Go for something with "lettuce" in the name since chard isn't actually a lettuce, or do the spinach and arugula blend. Or mix them together, so you more or less get spring mix without the chard And beware, chard comes in green forms without the red stem too!0

I wouldn't say it was the arugula. It's what I often choose and tastes peppery - not like dirt imo.0

Chard has a high sodium content in relation to other leafy greens.
That's probably what hit your taste buds.0 -
