Extra Appetite from quitting smoking!

So I quit smoking about a month ago, and am feeling pretty good - except for all the extra weight I have put on. I don't have any more cravings for cigarettes, however my appetite is still much higher than it was before. I already eat a fairly high satiety diet, high in protein and fiber, but I'm still ravenous if I eat less than 4000 Calories per day.

Any former smokers have any tips for appetite reduction? (I really am just looking for help from ex nicotine addicts here, or even those who quit and then fell back into the habit. If you've never gotten hooked, I don't really think you can understand).

    Congratulations!

I quit smoking, Camel non-filters, 15 years ago after smoking for 25 years. I only gained another 5 pounds. I really don't recall being more hungry, instead food tasted better so I wanted more. I think our reaction to quitting is perhaps individual. First I wouldn't worry about it as I'm guessing it will pass over some time. Perhaps add some walking etc. so you have some calories to eat back. Your macros sound like what I prefer, consider trying to change?

    Good luck!

I cannot fathom eating that much, as even 1800 calories would take forever to consume. (small framed woman) How would one find the time? My tips are several: Keep sugar free candies around to keep your mouth occupied. (so your teeth don't rot). Whenever an urge strikes, get up and walk around. Take deep deep breaths. Drink iced tea or iced water. Chew on the cubes. Chew gum. Whenever you get actually hungry, eat 7 almonds, in tiny tiny bites. That's 50 calories, and will give you crunch and good nutrition and a bit of sweetness, as well as terrific fiber. Keep your favorite fruits and vegetables, especially ones like apples, carrots and celery--things with good crunch to them, around.
Congratulations on your success. Be very proud of yourself.
