With those stats, you most likely chose your Activity Level as Active (BMR x 1.55), which will result in that many Calories per day to maintain. If you feel that is too many Calories, you can choose either Sedentary (BMR x 1.25) or Lightly Active (BMR x 1.375) to get a lower Calorie goal. Choose one Activity Level, monitor your intake and exercise for at least four weeks. If you are not maintaining, then adjust your Calorie intake based on whether you are losing or gaining weight.

    I'm 38... female... 165cm, 62 kg, and I eat 2200 calories to maintain.

    So no, not wrong.

Just because that is "average" does not mean that is what every person will require.
If I switched to maintenance right now I would need about 2500 calories. (Granted I am 5' 183 lbs and could stand to lose more, so I'm probably not considered "average".)

Just because that is "average" does not mean that is what every person will require. I'm assuming she got that number from eating that much and maintaining her weight.

Thanks for explaining what 'average' means....

It depends on activity level and whether you're talking net or total calories too. I am 57 and 5'10". I maintain at 1700 net, but eat at least 2200. I've done that 5 years. And trust me, I ate much more at 20.
