Help!! Upcoming knee surgery

I've been rather apathetic lately as my motivation has been minimal due my inability to exercise like I was used to doing. How does one stay motivated to eat better and move when certain parts of the body are rebelling?

Hi! Back in January I tore my meniscus and ACL. I've had surgery for the meniscus but still waiting for the ACL reconstruction surgery. I was so miserable until I was able to start doing some movement again with physio so I definitely understand where you're coming from!

Honestly, I took a month or so off from logging after I got hurt but kept an eye on the scale while keeping up with the good eating habits I've learned using MFP (ie I still ate chocolate, just not ALL the chocolate). I maintained during that time and it was a nice break while I focused on healing. It's now two months after my first surgery and I'm focusing on being entirely healthy again someday and taking care of myself as best I can in the meantime. I'm planning on taking the same approach after my next surgery.

Feel free to friend me if you'd like :)

My sister-in-law just had a total knee replacement yesterday. Prior to that she worked out almost daily to prepare herself for the surgery in spite of her knee being very painful. Being in shape beforehand will definitely help her healing. She didn't log her meals on here, but she did lose a few pounds before yesterday and will get back to it soon.

Thanks! My mom just recently had a total knee replacement too. I have gone back to my yoga practice and walking, as best I can. The unending swelling is what stops most of my serious attempts.

The swelling she had prevented her from downhill skiing this winter, but that was also her clue that it more serious than she thought at first. She's had 3 different knee surgeries for ligament repairs and this just felt different for her. Good luck to you.

Linzon - I had my meniscus repaired in December and the swelling around my knee has never gone away. I now have to have a partial knee replacement. (Eek)
What you described is just what is going on here! Lol! Boy, I try to be really good.... I fluctuate a few pounds up and down but am relatively ok with at least maintaining where I'm at. The worst part is knowing that even if I did eat REALLY well, my weight won't change until I can get back to walking and doing the gym thing like I should. Oh well, it WILL get better.
