Mini cuts and bulking

Hi has anyone heard of the above? Traditional bulking and cutting cycles are lengthy and can cause people to gain loads of body fat or lose muscle mass, however with mini cuts and bulking where the individual goes on a deficit of 500 cals, for say a month, than at maintenance of a week and than a 200 calorie surplus for a week, and than repeat the cycle adjusting training accordingly, idea being the deficit and the bulk period being so short that the body won't gain fat or lose muscle, but still get small but gradual muscle gain and also body fat loss, some fitness pros swear by this, and was wondering if anyone tried this?

It doesn't sound very effective. 500 calorie deficit for a month is about 4 lb loss total. Then, a week of maintenance, and only a week to "bulk"? I don't imagine you'd get much, if any, muscle gains on a surplus of 1400 cals over the course of a week. Sounds like its just a weird plan for someone who wants to recomp with a bit of fat loss. I don't know why you wouldn't just maintain a deficit of about 250 cals every day until you got to your goal BF% then did a normal bulk/cut cycle. No need to worry about what you're supposed to be doing depending on what week it is.0
