BMI and what should my weight be?

My goal is at MOST weighing 160 pounds but really like the number of being 145....i am 5"6 and im 21..i looked up my BMI online and it says 135... I am the youngest of 3 girls and my two sisters are SUPER small and petite...even after 2 kids each! I dont know if my body is built to be that tiny (im way taller that my sisters even when they have heelz on) and i dont think BMI takes into account muscle mass.....
So my question is....should i go what i think is comfortable? Or strive to hit 145, to be small but possibly risk being underweight?

I am a bit confused by the numbers you've given but having just calculated your BMI using your start weight (not sure what you are now) this is what I got:
Your BMI is: 34.0
Target weight range: 118.1 - 159.6 lbs
To get into the 'Healthy' BMI you need to be in the range of 118.1 and 159.60 -

There are a bunch of sites (a quick search will supply a bunch) that will tell you what the range of weight in a healthy BMI is. I'm also 5'6" and I think the range can be anywhere between 135 and 155. (EDIT: refer to previous poster since she actually looked it up.) That's a huge difference and all within a healthy BMI. I'd say get down into the healthy BMI range and then get to a point where you are comfortable with yourself. That is more important than being at a specific number on a scale.0

Personally go with what your comfortable with. I am 5'6" also and I am shooting for 160. If I go lower I'll be happy. Was 150 at my wedding in '84. Just take it one day at a time and enjoy getting lighter. Don't compare yourself to your sisters or anyone else. Eat smart and exercise. That's my 2 cents worth.:flowerforyou:0

Just keep losing until you like the way you look and you're at a comfortable weight to maintain.
Doesn't really matter what the number is, you know?
BMI is just an estimate and it's not appropriate for everyone to fall in the "healthy" BMI range.
I used to think I was one of those people who would look sick and underweight in the "healthy" range but the more weight I lose, the more I realize I was probably just lying to myself. I'm pretty sure I could lose 50 more pounds and be healthy. But I'm also pretty sure I'm going to look great and be very healthy in the "overweight" BMI range for my height as well (which is just 20 pounds away, woot!).0 -
For me, I just use BMI to pick a range to put as a goal. I don't care what my BMI says when I reach a point where I feel comfortable with my body (I'm 5'6, too by the way). That may be 170 pounds or 140. I don't know.. but I wouldn't stress about what BMI says is healthy. There is a lot that it doesn't take into consideration anyway.
Just get to the point where YOU feel best and maintain there!
Good luck!0 -
If you belong to a gym go get measured and weighed, they also do this another test that gives you a more accurate BMI. BMI calculators say I am at the high range of the healthy range but when i had a trainer do all the measurements I was right in the middle.0

Go with what you are comfortable with.....alot of these sites, only take in account very small body frame......If you reach 160 and you are happy with that go for it
I am 5' 3" and the sites say I believe 115-135.....but I am currently 154, and because I am a large body frame, alot of people think I am in the 140 range, because I also lose alot of inches...and I do weights.........I am trying to weigh 140.......any less and I dont think I am going to look good
So 160 when you get there, may not even look like 160....because you may have alot of muscle and thus look slimmer that you are
Whatever you are happy with, go for that0
