Staying Focused

How do you maintain your focus during your WL journey? I worry that I'll let the bottom fall out and lose sight of my goal and pack the pounds back on. I'm trying to take it one day at a time! Any advice for how you stay disciplined would be useful.

I've been consistent for a while and what makes me stay focused is taking emotions out of decisions that should be constant like going to the gym. I find alternatives to candy and chocolate and remember no food is worth what I felt at my heaviest. I've lost 20 lbs in the last 2 1/2 months by giving everything I have. I avoid temptations like my mom's for dinner and eat before I go anywhere. Good luck!!

I gave myself a time limit.

I was not going to be on a diet forever or for some unknown time period that dragged on and on. I was going to be on a diet for 16 weeks. And then I was going off the diet.

Sticking with it was so much easier when there was a definite end to it.

When I got to the 16 week point, I took a month off ... and then decided to resume for another 16 weeks.

Whenever I feel tempted to give up, I think of all the mornings I've gotten up at 430 to go to the gym. I don't want to stuff my face and make all that effort a waste!

i usually think of the progress i've made so far, and how happy it makes me feel.then i think of how happy i will become when i reach my goal and i will be able to wear my old clothes again. it's enough to keep me going.

My husband looked at the shirt I put on this morning, and said, "is that new?". Nope, but now that I've lost 18lbs I can wear it again. It's a rather gorgeous cerise linen shirt that I couldn't bear to throw away and I've been really looking forward to being able to fit into it again.

I suppose for me it was when I lost the weight I went down a few dress sizes which meant over time I replaced my whole wardrobe - expensive! But staying this weight is enough to keep me focused. Plus I feel and look great (imo)!

Do you only have one overarching goal, or smaller goals to reach in shorter intervals? Celebrating small losses can be really motivating for me - hitting a five or ten pound loss can motivate me to go for another five without being overwhelming.
I also like to get one piece of clothing I really like that is a size smaller and try it on regularly until it fits. (I don't get anything drastically smaller because I figured out the styles that previously worked for me don't always look good as I shrink.)
