Good Sugar?

I've heard all the sayings, and done my own research but there is sooooo much information out there and even here that one doesn't know what to think anymore! I'm curious about all your thoughts on good sugars and bad sugars.

All the recipes I've been using don't use processed sugar except one that I haven't tried yet, otherwise it uses honey, coconut oil etc and things like that. My biggest intake of sugar is from the fruit salad. Now MFP counter says I've gone over my sugar, which I did but because the fruit salad. Fruit is high in sugar, but they are natural, or so I would assume. My question is... Are the sugars in my fruit salad a bad thing? Will my body benefit from this or will this specific dish hinder my progress? (All who want to see the fruit salad, my food diary is open)

Yay or nay good sugar?

    No. The body cannot distinguish between the types of sugar in foods.

    For weight loss, all that is needed is a calorie deficit. Sometimes I go way way over on sugars, but that hasn't messed up my progress at all. Just weigh and log all your foods and stay within your calories.

    Sugar is sugar, whether it is from fruit, honey, or granulated sugar. Do you have a medical reason to limit sugar? If not, you may want to try what many of us have done -- ignore the sugar limit and instead focus on getting sufficient fat, protein, and fiber. As long as sugar isn't causing you to go over your calorie goals, it shouldn't impact your weight loss.

    Honey, sugar, fruit, vegetables, grains - your body breaks these all down into simple sugars (well, the granulated sugar is pretty well broken down already). None of these will hinder or help with weight loss.

    Fruits and vegetables have the added benefits of fiber (as do whole grains) and phytochemicals, many of which we know are beneficial although no rda has been established for them.

    That being said, I don't track sugar. I have no medical reason to do so and focus mainly on calories.

    No medical issues for me, so I don't track sugar. There is already a tracker for carbs (sugar is a carb). Instead I set my tracker for fiber.

    I try to reduce "added" sugar (all the snacky type stuff that got me here). Sugar from fruit, dairy, etc. is not something I worry about.

    This. I don't label any foods 'good' or 'bad' and I definitely eat sugar in all its forms. Hasn't hindered my goals at all.
