Insanity Max 30 + Weight lifting

So I started out doing Insanity with my wife to keep her motivated, and now we're coming up on the end and looking to start Max 30, since she enjoys the Insanity format.
I had gotten back into lifting regularly about 2 years ago, used 5x5 to get back into it, was repping bench about 205, squat 350, deadlift maybe 315 (yeah I know deadlift is way low, part of the reason I got mad and stalled). Nothing too impressive but I was happy, but let my progress blind me and got chubby. Stopped when I was stalling often on my lifts and realized I looked like a butterball turkey at 195~ at only 5'8" (maybe 5'8.5" but you know, short guy). Gave it up, dropped down to mid 160s by not eating like a hog, now approaching mid 150s doing Insanity.
I want to keep going with my wife because it's fun together and I think she likes watching me get my butt kicked, but I'm feeling the weight bench call me lately. Was looking to start up 5x5 light again in the evenings - we normally do our workouts together around lunch. Anyone ever try this? Not looking to spin my wheels, have a busy summer and don't want to run my body into the ground and become butterball 2.0, but I really enjoy lifting. Curious if anyone has experience or input on this.

The lifting would be solo for me at this point. She is interested in starting but not yet - she works evenings so it would be a bit much for her to fit in both.0
