3 rules that have helped me lose 74 pounds

Hi all

I've lost 74 pounds in about 6 months and have about 100 to go.

These are the 3 things that I've tried to do each day:

1. Eat within the daily calorie limit set by MFP (currently about 2,000).
2. Eat at least 5 different types of fruit and veg a day
3. Walk at least 10,000 steps a day.

On average, I probably get these things right about 75-80 per cent of the time. The more I do them the more the good habits are formed.

My weight loss has not been linear (lost nothing last week; 4 pounds the week before).

I've found that a large part of success is mental strength - dusting yourself down from a bad day. Log the slip and move on.

I might add more to the three rules in due course - eat oily fish; more cardio and strength - but not yet. One step at a time.

    Great post.

    For many people it doesn't have to be complicated. Your success boils down to:

    1. Keep calories in check
    2. Eat a balanced, nutritious diet
    3. Stay physically active

    I agree with both of you. Let's add one more, though...
    4. Drink lots of water! (at least 8 glasses a day)

    Thanks for sharing this! I'm trying to shed that last 10 lbs and the scale will not budge :)
