Barely more than 40 miles on Saturday but 25 of them were dirt and 4 were steep gravel doubletrack. The Mountain Loop is a pretty remote back road, and there was almost no traffic this weekend. The road heads out of Darrington, and heads up into the middle of nowhere. It was a warm, hazy day, and got clearer as I went up the road. Big, craggy, snow-capped and glaciated mountains surround the road; the road itself passes through a low elevation temperate rainforest. Between the scenery and the solitude, this was one of those bike rides that "feels like" hiking.
