Hey all,

I am definitely coming to realize that I cope with stress by eating--bad food, a lot of food, etc. It's a horrible habit. At this point in my life, I'm about to graduate college, in the process of moving, and will be starting a new job. None of those stressors can be controlled. I exercise and drink tea on a daily basis, but neither seem to help me relax. Any advice for taming the stress-induced food beast? My fitness goals are slowly slipping away...

It's hard to change habits that have become routine. Using food for comfort, or stress eating, or emotional eating, etc is hard to break. I try to remember to be in the present when I'm feeling stressed or if I'm just bored and wandering into the kitchen. Asking myself "Do you really want that?" or "Are you sure you're hungry?" seems to help.

Have you tried yoga or meditation? What about adult coloring books? My favorite thing when trying to relax or calm my anxiety issues is to watch ASMR videos on youtube. They help me relax and feel more at peace, especially at night. Perhaps if you replace stress eating with another behavior, over time it'll become a new habit and not something you'll have to be actively choosing to do.
