Question about step count and how you treat it

Do you count the elliptical "steps" (strides) that your fitbit gives you credit for? Or do you bump your step count up for those days? I currently have my goal at 10K steps but I feel like when you are on the elliptical those aren't REAL steps. Thoughts?

    Um. Totally real steps. I also treat biking as steps as well. It's exercise and you should treat it as such.

    Sure they are. My frustration is, because of the pedal pattern of the elliptical, I get fewer steps in the same time as walking, even on low resistance.

    Yes I count them! If you feel that 10K is too low you can aim higher on the days you use the elliptical.

    My Garmin doesn't count any steps on the elliptical. Not sure how it would, ours has a pretty smooth movement, there's no impact like walking or running. When I use it, I just record a cardio workout (which burns calories more quickly than walking).

    It's all exercise, for sure, but it's all different kinds of exercise with way different benefits and calorie burns. Biking isn't the same as real steps at all because you get to sit down while you do it. ;)

    My step counter is a heart rate monitor. I truly don't care about steps unless I'm in a challenge for that week. I care about the calorie burn only. And biking sucks for step counting anyways. I'm just saying it counts towards my steps. BUT even if I put it on my shoe and I bike 20 miles, it's only like 8000 steps.
