Retain the booty

I'm trying to shed 20 lbs by September, or atleast look 20 lbs thinner.

I'm wondering, how do I make sure that I don't lose my butt while I am trying to lose all this weight? Infact, I'd like it to get firmer / look more lifted, but not smaller. When I do lose weight, My lower body tends to lose it much much faster than my upper body, and I'd prefer a 40 / 60 upper body to lower body ratio. I know personal training would be a good option, it's just not a good option for me right now.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Follow the Starting Strength or Stronglifts lifting program while you lose the weight.

Unfortunately, you can't choose where you lose fat from. If you have fat in that area and you're eating at a deficit, you are going to lose some of it.

Heavy lifting, particularly squatting, deadlifting, and hip thrusting for glutes, along with adequate protein intake, will ensure that you retain most of your lean body mass, and, fortunately, your glutes are some of your largest muscles. So if you cut the fat (or most of it, anyway) from that area and have properly shaped the muscle underneath with lifting, I'm betting you'll be quite happy with how your butt looks.

    <---Deadlifts and squats.
If you lose fat, you will lose some from the booty too, but lifting should keep it fairly big and rounder/lifted.

Thank you! I've never heard of the starting strength or stronglift program. I will be sure to take a look and see what it's about. Hopefully it will help

Would P90x or insanity work the same way? or is it totally different than the starting strength or deadlifts?

You can certainly get nice results from those programs but they are primarily cardio. A true lifting program will give you a better chance of building/retaining the area you wish to preserve

If you are going to get into heavy lifting, make sure you have a coach that can help you with your form. Otherwise, you might accidentally injure yourself while trying to do the lifts.
