I've been on and off MFP for a while now. I use it mostly to log my intake and exercise. However, lots of posters talk about following the MFP program. Is there a program?

Depends on your definition of program. To count calories can be regarded as a program. MFP could also be the incarnation of an anti-program: All you have to do is eat food you like in appropriate amounts, log it, and move if you want to.

It has been discussed in length here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10359940/what-to-call-a-diet-that-is-just-based-on-reduced-calories/p1

I think they must be referring to the algorithm that MFP uses to calculate your weight loss goals and daily calorie allowance.

The exercise portion is basically up to you, although some people sync their devices with MFP to get a "negative calorie adjustment". My BF uses his iPhone as a pedometer while working, and the "negative calorie adjustment" automatically logs his steps as exercise and gives him an extra calorie allowance. Honestly I'm not sure how accurate it is, but he literally just started using MFP so I am not going to question it yet :)

to this...MFP uses the NEAT method which is Non Exercise activity thermogensis...basically that means it gives you the calories you need to lose weight bases on current stats and non exercise activity. Which means you need/should log exercise and eat back those calories as that is how MFP is designed.

As well...fitness trackers are sync'd not to get a negative adjustment...those are enabled to get a true showing of your activity. For example I have a calorie goal of 1500 everyday...my fitness tracker adjusts it to 1420 in the morning as I haven't moved enough to allow for it...as the day goes by I get past the -80 and into the positives which gives me more calories to eat.

    OP MFP method/program is NEAT.

I knew about the NEAT method, but thank you for clearing up the negative calorie adjustment. As I don't synchronize any devices with MFP myself, I misunderstood what was actually happening. My boyfriend was asking me about it yesterday and I really wasn't sure what he was referring to, but now I understand. Thank you.
