standing for 8 hours

So my job requires me to stand for 8 hours with minimal walking/wandering around. I'm wondering if you would consider that any sort of exercise-I know it's better than sitting all day... Can you burn calories just standing?
also, does anyone know some good shoes for that...I'm having major lower back pain because of it....
thanks!

No, you don't really burn any extra calories. Fatigue is not always a good indicator of exertion.0

You might want to look into gel inserts for your shoes. I have them for my running shoes (they sell them in the sneaker section of sporting good stores) and they really lessen the impact and the pressure from the elliptical isn't bad at all. I'd imagine they would make standing all day easier.0

I've heard wonderful things about the Reebok EasyTones... they seem to be really comfy.0

I stand all day too and I am pretty sure that you do burn a little more calories that sitting but it's not a whole lot more...I wore my hrm to work the other day cuz I was curious and my heart rate was about 15-20 bpm faster standing than sitting which tells me a I am burning more calories but it's minimal. As for shoes...I'm still trying to figure that out too. Try standing on a foam mat or a rubber mat...that does make a big difference!0

I'm curious as to how many calories you burn in a shift waiting tables. I hope it's a lot.0
