Because my calorie restriction is for weight loss and my occasional exercise is for my overall health... I eat back 50-75% of my exercise calories so I actually have energy and don't binge later.

I exercise for health and to maintain my lean body mass.

The author overlooks all the health benefits to exercise like it's only purpose is for weight loss.

Exercise though has health benefits and can effect your body composition in a positive way.

To large of a deficit can result in a lot of lean body mass loss since there is a limit to the amount of fat your body can use in a day. If I remember correctly it's like 30 calories per pound of body fat (which I think works out to be roughly 1% of body weight per week loss), so people with higher BF% can have a larger deficit in a day then those who are leaner. 1% of body weight per week usually lands people in the recommended 1-2 lb per week range.

I have very little confidence in the estimated calorie burns mfp provides. I will eat back 25-50% most days, sometimes not.

    And very wrong too.

MFP system is made that way that your deficit is build in. This is daily activity NOT calculating any exercise.

So when you eat the bottom line (1200) and have a deficit of 1000 calories with that you are depriving and risking malnutrition when you also going to exercise and dont give the body anything back for that.
So say 400 calorie burn...means 6that you are feeding your body only 800 calories a day.

Which is far to low for a healthy and sustainable weight loss and far to demanding. Malnutrition will follow sooner or later. Or people give up get gravings etc.

    I lost 139 lbs in 400 days... and i eat them back...not all between 50 to 75%
But you feel better and stronger when you do which lead to even better exercise...so fitter in the long run.

But up to the people who believe in this kind of nonsense and for some..yes it will work...for many...it wont.
