This is a question for any chicks out there who are 5'11 and in the 200's and in the 20's age group. How many calories are you eating to lose weight? I was told to eat 1800 but I feel like that is way too much

I'm 5'10", 28 years old and I eat ~2070 a day. That's what MFP gives me and I have no complaints with my weight loss so far.0

So I'm in my 30's, only 5'9", starting at 183 and I lost the majority of my weight eating 1800. You're good to go on 1800 a day.1

I'm 21, 5'11'' and weigh 232 lbs. I'm eating 1,700 to 1,850 calories per day and am having good success losing weight I'm averaging about 2-3 pounds lost per week, with 30-45 minutes of exercise per day (missing a day here and there.) For me, 1,800 is a great daily goal because it still allows me to lose weight without totally depriving myself and falling off the wagon repeatedly. The majority of my weight loss over the last few years (down 50lbs so far) has been when I eat in this calorie range. Everybody is different though, so you might try it out for a little bit and see how it works for you.0

You know, I think this is a common 'shock' to people when we start actually counting calories seriously. It's easy to underestimate how much we're eating, so when we're told to eat 1800, or even 2000 calories/day (or more with exercise) we say "but I don't eat that now!" Except that almost universally, we do or did.. and then some. It's just that we weren't tracking calories very well. So It *seems* like a lot of calories, but its sufficient to put us in deficit and reverse the weight gain!
I'm 37 and 5'9", although I've shrunk (thank you scoliosis...) from 5'11". I couldn't believe it when MFP gave me a goal of about 2,000 calories/day to lose 1 lb/week when I started a year ago. I didn't believe it, so I ate a lot less for months (I logged about 1,500/day). But I wasn't very good at logging to start, I estimated a lot. So I lost weight at the expected rate. When I tightened up my logging I realized that I really could eat that much, and I really had been.. I just had to be accurate about logging!
Right now I'm down to about 185 lbs. My calorie target for a sedentary day is 1,500 (still aiming for 1 lb/week). I typically earn a few hundred extra calories from exercise, and am averaging about 1,800 cal/day over a week. I trust the process as long as I'm accurate & honest about my intake.0 -
I'm 5'10 in the 150's and my average right now is between 1700 and 1800 calories and I consistently lose while sticking to this. My exercise routine varies depending on what I'm into at the moment. But even when I was doing a program where I was burning only 150-300 calories 5x a week I still lost when eating about 1800. 1800 really isn't a lot for a 5'11 frame. Even if your sedentary at your height & weight, you should still be losing at 1800. If you want to lose at a faster rate you can add in exercise or cut a couple hundred calories. It's all up to to how you want to approach it.

Interesting... I am 5'10 (and a half, so count myself as 5'11) and MFP only gave me 1550 to start and now I'm at 1470 per day. Starting weight was 265 and aiming to lose 2lbs/week.0

I'm 30, 6ft, started at 200lbs 6 months ago and was eating between 1650-1700 (total, I ate half to all exercise calories back) and lost 30lbs at ~1.5lbs a week.
Circuit trained 3x week plus low intensity cardio 2-3 times a week.0
