Is anyone else had any success with a 1300 calorie diet? I only want to lose about 15 pounds also any thoughts on a cheat day every once and awhile?

Before you can decided on what your calorie goal is, you should know your bmi and tdee. Your bmi is the amount of calories you use just to function your body daily. Your tdee is the average amount of calories you use daily based upon your body, sleep, and activity. Here is a great link

Cheat days can be counterproductive. Try building in treats to you calorie allowance. If you're aiming for 1300 you probably want to be eating back exercise calories. Really hard to stick to 1300 without eating back and a) get all the nutrients you need and b) not go crazy.

Also BMI is not the amount of calories you need - BMI is your body mass index which tells you whether you are the right weight for your height. BMR is what the other poster is speaking of. It is basal metabolic rate. That's how much energy your body needs to live.

Fortunately MFP takes all the maths out for you so you don't need to worry about googling them and calculating them yourself. Just pop your numbers in the guided goal setting and bingo!

You're confusing BMI (body mass index) with BMR (body metabolic rate).

I have been very successful on a 1300 cal a day diet. Without much exercise. If you don't have much to lose, you can generally go as low as 1200... but it does depend on your activity level as obviously if you are very active you can afford to eat more :)
