Exercise and facet joint arthritus

So I have been diagnosis with a degenerative disc and probably facet joint arthritus. It started in October and despite the surgeon saying it would settle I still struggle with any form of exercise. It triggers nerve pain that's not unbearable but bothersome. I have not been able to run since it started which is driving me crazy as I used to run 5 miles per day. They have suggested I have facet joint injections however I am so weary of such an invasive procedure. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and managed to get things to settle in another way?
