Body image - the truth (PIC)

Warning - if you don't want to read about personal body image issues, stop reading!
This is my moment of truth! One I know plenty of my friends can relate to. I've been bitchin' to my reflection in the mirror lately. That I'm still not skinny enough, toned enough...good enough. That I "need" a tummy tuck, a boob job, a leg extension...heck, maybe just a full body transplant. I KNOW I am not the only one who does this and I know that I shouldn't be wasting precious energy on thoughts like these. Thankfully, on most days I don't. But on the days that I do it annoys the heck out of me. I get angry at myself for talking myself down in a manner I would never let my girlfriends, daughters and sister talk to themselves. So instead of continuing to put this body down tonight I am going to put it online and say this: This is my one and only body, no make-up, no filter, my amazing tummy that has stretched beyond anything I ever believed possible and grown 5 human beings, breasts that have fed these same children for 45 months and my thick thighs that carry #walkinginga wherever I want to go. I'd say that's pretty damn amazing....but I still want a tummy tuck

You look fantastic! I think once we are moms we have a harder time with our bodies not being what they once were. I do the same thing to myself but my husband is super sweet and tells me he loves the body even more now.

That's so true. We beat ourselves up something fierce don't we? I'm glad that you decided to stop doing that to yourself.

You look great! You are also very on point for the feelings that a lot of us have at various moments. I had mine yesterday . . . even after losing 85 lbs. I HATE shopping. The reality is that no matter what I do, I will never be 5'6" (I did tell my artist daughter that she must make a urn for my ashes in the form of a giraffe - so I will be tall for ever after!). I appreciate that my body is amazing, I've only carried 2 humans but when I push myself to try new things or push myself through a workout I feel amazing.

I believe society with all it's movements of acceptance really accomplishes the opposite of what it professes to do.

I really want a boob job, not a lot just a solid B cup!

Yea, we all have a bad habit of beating ourselves up. Even after we hit all of our initial goals, we are striving for more. Guess that's part of being human XD

In any case, I think you look amazing, and I look forward to one day being your size. ^_^ Ya look damn good! I would have never guessed you carried around 5 kiddos.

I think you look beautiful. We all have those days, the best thing you can do is be compassionate to your self. Be compassionate on days when you have a lot of body positivity and be compassionate to your self on days you don't. ❤

You're so right and you look amazing! I took a new exercise class last night and saw all these women of all shapes and sizes in little hot pants all looking sexy and strong and realised my wobbly bum and thighs are the same as everyone else's!!! Embrace your body, your aura, your skin :)

Body image is such a tough concept, especially after you lose weight. First, I have to say that no matter our size, our bodies are miracles. So easy to forget and hate on ourselves. Now my particular tale: I went from a size 14 (once upon a time a size 24) down to a 2-4 not too long ago. The weird thing was that I couldn't see the difference in the mirror. The scale showed it, my clothing size showed it, but I couldn't see it. I don't know how long it takes for your brain to catch up to your body.

Complete mom moment - you're making me tear up. I completely understand and empathize. BUT - we are each amazing, unique, gifts to this world and it is up to us to remind ourselves every day.

I absolutely loved reading this! I do the same thing to myself. Constantly wanting to fix something about myself. Feeling like nothing will ever be enough. You're totally right. Our bodies have done some amazing things! I have 3 kids. Breastfed 2. So I onow things will never look the same but I can still be happy with my body!
