Focusing on Toning After Losing Weight?

I mean, during my diet, i'll be doing exercise, however it'll be mainly cardio. Would it be okay if then I started focusing on toning when I'm down to my goal weight? Or would it be more beneficial to just do it at the same time?

I lift on monday, wednesday and friday and do my cardio on tuesday and thursday. Weekends are rest days. I like the alternating days, gives my body somethng different to do every day.
Cardio is ok for losing weight but 'toning' (I assume you mean strength training) prevents loss of lean body mass, which is a good thing0 -
Do it at the same time. Start lifting weights - the more muscle mass you have, the higher your metabolism. Plus once you get down to your goal weight you'll already have nice strong muscles0

Incorporate strength training now. It'll help preserve lean mass, which means you won't need to lose as many pounds to get to your goal body.0

What others have said--lift now!0

I totally agree. I made the mistake of NOT doing that- and now I am dealing with trying to put on muscle without gaining back a lot of fat weight. It's HARD!0

Start weight training now. I wish I'd started at my heaviest! Weight training helps prevent a lot of muscle loss and it is easier to prevent it than it is trying to build it back up after losing it.0

Resistance training is going to prevent you from losing lean body mass and give you the firm, shapely body that you desire. Do you want to start looking better now or at some nebulous date far into the future?

You need to build muscle so when you lose the weight you won't be a skinny fat person lol0 -
If you have the time to do it, incorporate the strength training now. If you'll feel overwhelmed, stick with the cardio and try doing intervals, which are believed to be more efficient than steady state cardio alone.0
