Calorie count scans higher than product package?

I scanned a food and MFP shows it 20 calories higher than the package. 20 calories means a lot to me these days
Does this happen to anyone else? Often?

Thanks!

It would probably be best to trust the package. Most foods on MFP are entered by other users, and sometimes they can be wrong. You can either find another variation of the same food, or enter it in yourself.

I would trust the package. Perhaps what happened is that the company reformulated the product since it was entered into the database, and that affected the calorie count.

Sometimes I scan a code and it gives me a completely different product from that company. Go with the package!

I agree with this post ^^^

I have had the same myself, put in the food and up it comes, then when I have checked the "nutrition value" it is different calorie-wise because somebody has changed it.

The package calorie amount will be as close to accurate as you can get and that is the most you can do.

Scanning works great - most of the time. Scan it, make sure it's the same as the package, and go with it. I'd say maybe 10% of the time (or less), the database brings up the wrong values from a scan.
