I have lost 30 pounds through cardio and healthy eating and now I want to start building muscle, especially in my ab area, what are some good exercises or routines for building muscle?

crunches, planks, ab roller, squats, hanging leg raises, oblique twists, deadlifts. You will need to eat more of course to build muscle.

A compound lifting program. Check out Stronglifts 5X5 at stronglifts.com. You can download the app to track your progress at the gym. Only five exercises, three times a week, approximately 45 minutes per session. I've had fantastic results, including my abs.

Well like weight loss...weight gain (and that's what happens when you build muscle) can't be to a specific spot.

You can make areas stronger by working them but that's about it.

To build muscles there are two ways.

eat above maintenance (gain weight) and do a progressive load lifting program such as SL 5x5.

    or

Do a recomp where you eat at maintenance do a progressive load lifting program however this is a very slow process and can take years to build appreciable amounts esp for us women.

I do classes at my gym, either MetCon3 or Barre, lately.
