What do you do when you are tired of counting, and logging, and measuring, and making food plans, and working out 5-6 days a week? Just exhausted by it all. I've taken a day off here and there but I worry if I take more than that off, I'll fall back into bad habits.

I have goals and I want to reach them but today I'm just tired of it all. What do you do or say to yourself on those days?

I've taken breaks. Usually I focus on making really good choices during that time. Lean protein at each meal with lots of vegetables and a small sweet snack once per day. I've usually lost weight during that time due to a reduction in stress. As far as the working out, you might need to reduce your workout frequency if you keep burning out.

I just stopped doing it for month... when I gained 5lbs I was ready to recommit. Lol

*edited because the predictive text on my phone is still learning. I've only had it a week.

I woke up with a headache this morning which explains my exhaustion at life yesterday. I guess I'm an all or nothing person. I commit whole heartedly or I don't. My goal is to find that balance that will allow me to take a break and not beat myself up over it.

Have you tried setting your calorie goal a little higher and allowing yourself a little extra with food? Perhaps you are trying to lose too quickly. Remember you want this to be lifestyle change. Something that you can manage for the long haul.

Also, start thinking about the positives. What are you getting out of your choices? What healthy yummy things do you GET to eat? How is your body responding to the exercise?

It's responding really well. I'm sore a lot but I see progress with photos and I like what I'm seeing and how it's changing so I want to push myself to see how much I can go. But you are right. I need to start seeing how far I've come versus getting run down by the daily.

Perhaps reading about the value of "taking a break" would help. Here are a few articles:

This ^^^ Listen to your body... We can be our own worst enemies so, try and remember to be kind to yourself. This is a challenging journey but one that is extremely worthwhile. Good Luck!

Change things up. I was getting bored with doing the weight machines and elliptical all the time, so I started going to BodyPump. Totally reinvigorated me! I just signed up for two virtual races (money goes to charity) that will provide me with motivation for the next couple of months. Maybe take a break and find a new type of exercise to try? Or set up a reward system for yourself--if you work out so many times per week, you get this particular reward. And it's okay to take a break occasionally. Take a leisurely walk instead of doing an intense workout.

I planned, weighed and logged while losing weight, (and I still plan and weigh some food in maintenance,) but MFP took care of the counting ;)
I haven't worked out since 2008. I walk, and do some easy strength training at home.
My eating and exercise plan is for life, and I never feel any need to take a day off :D
