How do you get around that?

(I only do cable pull-throughs on days when my baggiest sweatpants are clean. I wear it with an old, baggy guy's T-shirt I inherited somehow. I do glute bridges at home.)

  • I try to sort of tune everyone around me out, and focus on getting it over with as soon as i can without sacrificing form. I've had a personal trainer for a year and a half, and there are still exercises I do only if she's with me because I'm so self-conscious. Anything involving a barbell I do only if I'm with her or my boyfriend--for safety and self-conscious reasons

There's a room in my gym that we call the "big boy room" where there are super heavy weights and equipment for bodybuilders. There are a couple machines in there that my trainer has me use but I usually only go in there when she's with me or it's empty because I feel so out of place. I know how to do the exercises properly but still avoid doing them sometimes. I really, really need to get over my fears lol.

I hate doing lunges because I have balance issues, and I always have to stop a million times during a set to get back in proper form, and I feel like everyone is staring at me!

I don't worry about. My goals are more important to me than what anyone else thinks about what I am doing. I do hip thrusts with barbells, glute lifts and whatever else is in my program in the weight room with all of the body builders and wanna be bros. Sometimes it feels a bit weird, but that's why I have my program on my phone. I just put my ear buds in and focus on my lifts. Everyone else in the weight room probably has insecurities about some aspect of their training, so I wouldn't worry about it!

This is exactly what I need to do, thank you.

It's not just self-consciousness, I get irritated, too, lol. But the answer is the same :)

I don't usually like music for working out, but maybe that will help!

I think you will feel more at home with time! I usually feel ok now, though I didn't when I started, just took getting used to the whole thing.

(My problem is really just the thrusting exercises)

(For lunges - if balance is a problem, try keeping your feet closer together to start with; it's more stable :)

Thanks! I haven't let it stop me from going so I still accomplish something, and there are things that I am more comfortable with now than I was in the beginning. I think as time goes on and I lose more weight/get stronger and just begin to feel more confident overall, I'll feel better about it.
  • Oh, and thanks for the tip about the lunges, I will definitely try that!
