Hi guys and gals!! I am a tad confused. When I eat things like Kashi cereal, soy milk, wheat bread al in moderation of course, I don't lose weight. When I cut those things out COMPLETELY and stick to hard boiled egg and low fat deli slices for bfast, salad or tuna with low fat mayo and entertaining crackers for lunch I lose weight! I would like to be able to switch my breakfast up and enjoy some of the things you all enjoy like the kashi cereal and such but I think instead of lactain intolerant I am carbs intolerant!!!!

Do you track your sodium? Breads and cereals tend to have alot of sodium. Since you cut them out you probably are retaining less water. 1 slice of bread can have 3-5% of your daily alloted sodium. Some breads even more. When you add all that up and salt you might add to food it gets real easy to go over. We get 80% of our sodium from the foods we eat.

I think it is something along those lines. A calories is a calorie. So it should not matter if its a carb or a protien.

I've been reading a lot about the gylcemic index... Turns out eating low index foods looks like the thing to do... It's hard, and i LOVE kashi, but I've had to give that kind of stuff up and am hoping I'll have better luck losing weight that way too :/

Do you also have headaches, GI symptoms, skin rashes/breakouts, even PMS when eating those things? Do they seem better when you are not eating them?

Maybe its not carbs. Maybe you are gluten intollerant. Many people have gluten sensitivity and the symptoms vary.

Gluten is prominent in the foods you listed. I used to notice that when sticking to the phase 1/no carb portion of the South Beach Diet, I lost weight and felt amazing. Once I started adding things back in (always whole grains like is pounded into our heads) everything would fall apart. It wasn't really fat I was gaining, it was bloating. I loved Kashi too, but I don't even miss it now. There are plenty of gluten free alternatives, especially foods that are naturally gluten free which are also low glycemic.

I eat a piece of bread twice a week and that's it. I sometimes have cereal, like cheerios, kix, or puffins as a post dinner snack. To keep my fiber up, I eat GG Scandinavian Crispbread and I love it. Its a lifestyle change, I won't lie, but i don't really crave bread, so it works for me.

I am sensitive to Gluten as well and it's just best to stay away from those things and choose alternatives. But I am also carb sensitive as well and for me I can not go over 100 carbs daily or I start gaining weight ....so it's possible you could have both.
