What are some favorite dishes that are fairly good calorie wise? I am going out tomorrow and want to make some good choices:)

Just try to stay away from deep fried items covered in sauce (sweet and sour pork is one). The more veggies the better.

I would start with a soup. Won Ton, Egg Drop or Miso (even though Miso is Japanese, a lot of Chinese restaurants serve it for whatever reason). A serving is pretty filling and not that many calories considering it will take away a good amount of your hunger.

After that, I agree with ninerbuff...stay away from the fried stuff and go for the vegetable dishes. Or go for the good stuff if you have a good allowance of calories by the time you get to the restaurant.

Beef or chicken and broccoli, light on the sauce if you have the option.

    Buddha's Feast (steamed veggies).
Nolan and Heslin have a book, The Diabetes Counter, with a restaurant section at the back. PF Chang's and PEI WEI are listed. It helps me to look up options beforehand. There are the "Eat This, Don't Eat That" series of books, some of which are for dining out--good to have one in the car when you go out.

Steamed rice, not the fried. The chicken, tofu, or vegetable (best) option, not the beef or pork version. For an appetizer steamed (not fried) dumplings.

I happen to be an expert on this one! I love Chinese food and will binge on it even though weight loss.

As has been said, just stay away from anything deep friend. But things like:

Hot and sour soup [or any soup really]
    Steamed rice
    Lean beef
    Steamed veg

Etc etc... you can eat a tonne of.
