Heart rate while exercising

I was just wondering if there is a chart somewhere that tells you want a "safe zone" is for your heart rate while exercising? I weight 169 and am 5ft 7" tall and 31 years old. When I Jog on the elliptical macine my heart rate can get up to 156...is this too high...or is is still safe? While I'm on the stationary bike, with 4.5 resistance, my heart rate will be around 118.
