A little bit about myself

Hi! My name is Staci, I'm 22, and I have been trying to lose weight since.... well I don't know how long. Probably since 8th grade, with no real luck. I'd always lost 4 or 5 lbs, then gain it right back. Or I wouldn't lose anything (or gain!) and I'd give up completely. I weigh just under 190 lbs, and I have gained 20 of those in the past four years (since being in college). I have had hypoglycemia since childhood, which I'm sure has contributed to some of my weight issues.

Over the past year I have been trying VERY hard to lose weight with little to no success. I was counting calories, taking my hypoglycemia meds, and exercising like a BEAST (for instance, I ran a half marathon in May - amazing experience). During all of this, I gained 5 lbs.

I recently had a physical (going to vet school this fall, and it was required) and found out that I have hypothyroidism. I am convinced that this has had something to do with my inability to lose weight. So, I just got put on levothyroxine, and am now doing everything I can to set myself up for success to lose weight when my meds start working. This means logging all of my food, continuing to exercise, and finding a supportive community - that's where you come in!

So I look forward to be able to finally get off some of this weight.... and I hope that I can come here to get the encouragement when I need it. Has anyone had experience with hypothyroidism and trying to lose weight? Have you been successful after getting your thyroid hormone levels managed?

Thanks!

I have not had any problems with hypothyroidism. But I would be happy to give you the encouragement everyone needs to help you succeed in your get fit journey :-) Always talk with your doctor before you start an exercise program.......yes everyone says this I know but its true! :-) Feel free to add me as a friend

Thanks! My doctor is encouraging me to exercise, so that is good. In fact I feel a little validated because for years he has told me that I need to lose weight, exercise, eat better, etc because I was gaining weight. I'm just hoping once I get my meds balanced it'll be at least feasible.
