The last two nights in a row were abnormal in that I stayed up a lot later then normal, except almost got as much sleep by sleeping in. This morning and yesterday morning were my first two weight gains. While minimum gains, they broke a losing trend, so obviously the two late nights must have had an effect on my weight.

Is this a common thing?

Poor sleep can certainly have an effect on your weight, some may find they are more affected than others.

My experience is (as an insomnia sufferer) that any losses tend to be less or stalled during the lack of sleep period, I remembering a wise friend on MFP mentioning the effects of increased cortisol and lack of sleep being a factor in lower losses or even weight gains, could be worth your while to have a bit of a google and see what you discover.

Lack of sleep can also affect food choices ie: when I am particularly tired I am more likely to reach for quick release calorie dense foods, which can then negate any deficit and of course the intensity of exercise is not the same if your exhausted.

I hope this sleepless period is short lived for you, if it does linger having a talk to your Doctor may be worthwhile.

    Hope this helps.

It is hard to know because you got enough sleep but sleep is so important and effects weight. Any change (like the times) could affect the scale.

I dont know if this is the case with you. But when I don't get enough sleep I'm super hungry. It's like my body needs extra energy, which it gets from extra food.
