Question about calories and exercise

I'm confused. I'll meet my 1,200 calories before the day is over, but I burned a lot today (cleaned my basement vigorously for nearly 6 hours). I'm not supposed to eat all of those calories, am I?

The consensus on mfp seems to be to eat back anywhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of exercise calories back. But of you're not hungry, why bother?

MFP is set up so that you log exercise and eat at least a portion of those calories back.

The debate of whether or not to log cleaning as exercise is a strongly debated one.

Personally, I chose to consider it a bonus on the days I do extra cleaning like that and not eat them back. I feel it will even out over the week if I have a less than active day.
I log regular, intentional exercise and eat at least a portion (actually most if not all) of them back.

Oh, and I'm suspicious of map's calorie burn counts for cleaning and housework, so I never log it.

when i log cleaning, it's vigorous cleaning without a break that increases my heart rate - sweeping, carrying heavier objects, mopping, scrubbing. standing in one place doing dishes, light dusting, putting away small objects i wouldn't log as it doesn't raise my heart rate or make me sweat.

I typically only add specific Cardio and eat back a portion. Its pretty difficult to gauge the burned calories for cleaning..

Thanks, all. I vigorously cleaned the basement. Carried/moved heavy bins, furniture, scrubbed, mopped, cleaned ceilings, etc. I don't log typical cleaning, but this got me sweating and stuff.

I'm only going to eat my typical 1,200 calories. Thanks, all!

You didn't burn that many calories.

But, 1,200 is good if you're in a coma. So, without knowing anything about you, I'd say 1,659 per day.

1,200 feels good to me, and I'm not in a coma. ;).

(For real, though. My doc recommended 1,200 calories for now. Thanks for the input, though.)

I gotta say, it's pretty unlikely you burned 1200 calories cleaning the basement. And you should subtract out the 100 cal/hour you would have burned if you were just sitting watching TV for a net of 650 at the most. I would be careful eating that back.

Nope, you don't know anything about me.

She does know that you certainly didn't burn that many calories cleaning. Cleaning is not exercising and shouldn't be logged as such.

Listen, I realize I didn't burn as much as the entry suggested, but I certainly burned a lot of calories carring dozens of 50lb bins up stairs 25 times, wiping walls and ceilings, moving furniture, scrubbing floors on my hands and knees, etc. No need to be a dick. I didn't ask for any advice other than the question I asked.

    Seriously?
What post was not supportive? They were all friendly. They may have been cautionary but not unfriendly.

Wait. You don't want advice from this community but you're asking this community for advice on how to delete posts? Do you want advice or not?

And if we tell you how to delete this post are you say more mean things to us for answering that question too?

If we tell you how, are you going to call us out for it?
