I've had pcos for about 18 years and only really thought about it when I was having fertility issues. Now i am trying to lose weight and change my eating habits I know I need to consider this and help my body in anyway that I can. I've been on metformin in the past and really don't want to go there again. I was really ill on them and really don't like to take medication if I don't have to. Can somebody please help and just let me know what kind of foods I should limit or avoid. I will go away and research it aswell but would really appreciate any advice. Thanks

I have PCOS, as well and it's made losing weight nearly impossible. That was until I realized that I was dieting in the wrong way for my metabolism.
Because women with PCOS have issues with glucose metabolism, the best thing that you can do is to eat like a diabetic. Cut way back on your sugar and carbohydrate intake. Make sure to get plenty of exercise, especially strength training (muscle helps regulate insulin levels).
Do not cut back on fat (unless you are eating a thousand grams a day) or protein - these will not make you fat, believe it or not. Also, fruit is good but it can be easy to overdo it, so what how much fruit you are eating and opt for more veggies.
Good luck!0 -

I was also unable to tolerate Metformin, so had to go at my PCOS and insulin resistance by just diet and exercise....I did what this poster is suggesting. I pretty much cut all processed foods and have just been eating meat, veggies, fat, and a tiny bit of fruit. I'm lactose and gluten intolerant, so I don't eat dairy or stuff containing gluten, either.
I lift weights 4 x per week and train with kettlebells on the other two days. I walk a lot every day. I've lost 70 lbs in the past year of doing this stuff and sticking to eating properly. No meds at all.0 -
Thanks, appreciate the help x0
