I lost 4.4 lbs the first week and I've been weighing myself daily and haven't seen a change since. I'm also coming up on my full 2nd week. I'm not sure I'll weigh myself less often because putting the scale away last time made me forget all about my weight.

You weren't discouraged weighing daily when the # didn't change?

I also weigh myself daily and have done so since the beginning and I don't find it discouraging. Doing so only adds to my knowledge about my body and how my weight fluctuates. You can scour this site for my screen name and never once find me asking "why did I gain 5 lbs this week omg?" because weighing daily has allowed me to see EXACTLY how much and during which times of my cycle my scale weight fluctuates.

I never worry when I see the number has jumped up 5 lbs, because I have the information at my disposal to tell me that I didn't really gain 5 lbs, I'm just ready for aunt flo/ate too much salt/worked out hard and I'm retaining water. If I did not make myself aware of these fluctuations by weighing early and often and watching the trends closely over time, I would probably be really upset and confused. So to me, the argument is in favor of weighing more frequently, not less.

That's only my own experience, and everyone is different, but I feel safe and secure in knowing, in having all the information I can get my hands on, and I feel unsafe, insecure, and anxious when I don't. Very simple. I'd rather know my logging is crappy (negative information) so I can fix it than not realize it for 2 weeks and then get slapped in the face when I didn't lose anything at all. That whole two weeks could've been spent solving the problem and getting me back on track instead of being wasted on efforts that aren't accomplishing anything.

I weigh daily. At first I would get discouraged if the number was not steadily going down after the initial whoosh, but now I don't . Weighing daily helped me to see a pattern in my body. I will have a low day, then go up about 2.5 lbs. the next day. It will take me about 6 or 7 days, to lose that 2.5 lbs. then I have a new low. If I just weighed once a week, I would miss that low day. I keep track of all my daily weigh ins on happy scale and look at the general trend which has steadily decreased over time.

i'm so glad to read this! i lost 4 pounds in the first 2 weeks and now i'm coming up on 1.5 months and i've gone through the same pattern. i have an exciting low day, and then back up for a week. my new low day is lower than my first low day and my high days aren't as high as my first day but i get frustrated. so far my net loss is at 3 pounds in 45 days.

i've done this before, and each time it takes a while (a couple of months to really start losing). does anyone else have this pattern? most people lose a lot at first and then plateau, i keep wondering if i am doing something wrong.
