So today at the office is Birthday Day. We celebrate all the Birthday's at once for everyone in the Month. There is cake, ice cream, Jello, and a variety of little fun snacks to celebrate birthdays.
I saved calories for today knowing full well what today was. I had every intention of eating some junk today and fitting it into my calories/macro goals. But something strange happened, I got into the break room looked at the food, thought about how good it would taste and then the strangest thing happened. A feeling of not feeling well because of eating it was reminded to me in my brain just from the smells of the cake. See last month I ate the cake and ice cream within my goals, but had a feeling of meh afterwards. That memory surfaced with just the smells of the carrot cake today.
So today, remembering how I didn't feel great last time decided to go a different route. I grabbed 2 bananas (used for banana splits), ate one and saved the other for breakfast. Now I'm not sitting here trying to brag or anything like that, that isn't who I am. However, I realized that my body itself knows not to eat crap. (If you look at my diary you'll see I'm not a super clean eater, I had pizza last night). I worked out today at lunch had my protein shake and my brain opted not to put any garbage into itself by reminding me how bad I felt last month.
This isn't something that happened overnight, but through the consistency I've shown myself I've adapted my thoughts to subconsciously (because I had every intention of eating that crap today) make better decisions. So don't get down on yourself for eating crap because eventually you may adapt to not wanting it as you slowly wean yourself off of it.

Good for you on both counts. Having the freedom to eat that cake probably made it easier to not eat it as well. It wasn't some forbidden treat for you, it was just a choice you made based on how it was going to make you feel. You are in control of your food intake.0

I can honestly say that I hope with every part of my being that this never happens to me.1
