Hi! So this is totally ransoms but I am seriously contemplating moving to Juneau or somewhere in southeast Alaska next year. I blame the Discovery channel and all their Alaskan shows-but mainly I want a change of pace and some adventure in my life! Any tips for this Lower 48 gal from Alaskans on moving up there would be appreciated! Love and Rockets!

Well, cost of living is higher, I believe they only have two stores to buy clothing, jobs aren't exactly every where so make sure there's a market for your skills first. And you don't get dividends until you've been a permanent resident for two years, just fyi.

I no longer live in Alaska but I was born there and lived for many years, been back almost every year for visits. There's not much to "do" except bask in the beauty. For it is indeed beautiful. I still have a lot of family in Juneau. Also remember global warming, the glaciers are melting.

I once was walking across what appeared to be a snowy field before plunging about three feet into a creek that wasn't well frozen. That was a fun day! Haha. But it is lovely, I have cousins who work in government up there and are doing okay financially. Other family members are struggling, but that's going to be true for most places. But Alaska there just aren't close "back ups". You cant live in one city and commute to another for example. I live in Portland and many folks either work here and live in Vancouver or vice versa, not an option really in juneau. Just giving random info.
