Someday when I get in shape....

So...I'm not so much new to this as at 41 years old, it's been a life long struggle. I'm actually now lighter than any time since 1995 as a sophomore in college. Since January I've lost 18 lbs officially according to my doctor and for the first time since I can remember, my blood pressure is normal.
That's all pretty good news, I suppose. I've been using MFP since April 10th and tracking everything and really trying to kick things into overdrive.
For the record, I'm a dad, happily married with two teen daughters. I'm 6' and.....well, down to 279lbs. For someone who spent the 90% of their adult life north of 300 (346 max), I suppose that's better.
I've been through a fair bit of drama in terms of career and finances in the last 5 years. Lost a family business and ended up going g back for a masters degree. I blew a golden opportunity to get in shape then but I was lazy.
Now I have a very supportive employer and we have great facilities, a large campus, and a staff that holds classes and dispenser session advice.
For a long time I only really lifted heavy because it's what I knew how to do but I've shifted toward a lot more cardio. The fact my knees are shot doesn't help.
Currently I am:
M-W-F 50 min cardio group class in the morning
M-T-Th-F hour or so run/walk at lunch. 2.5- 3.5 miles or hit this elliptical if the knees are hurting.
Tuesday morning I lift heavy. Try to get the big 3 plus pull ups and a few minor lifts like curls, etc.
Thursday morning is stretching class that is more or less yoga
I lost 8 lbs in two weeks of this rough plan and have plateaued for the moment. 41 years of bad habits are one thing. Convincing my body to cooperate is another.
Anyhow, long winded but it's a slow day at work.....
