Has anyone done this? What are the benefits/detriments?

The benefits would be none. Your liver & kidneys do a good job of clearing toxins (didn't know sugar was considered a toxin). There are sugars in fruits, veggies & dairy too.

Anyway - detoxes & cleanses are the latest weight loss fad that offer temporary weight loss. Just skip it.

I'm working on "managing" my sugar intake, not eliminating it because I won't be added sugar for the rest of my life.

I reduced baked goods and increased protein and fruit (and exercise), and voila, no more sugar cravings. I had no need for a detox.

Sugar is not a toxin, therefore doesn't need detoxification.

    Detox is the wrong word.

I cut out added sugar for a while when I started because I wanted to see if I felt different and thought it might make things easier for me. It wasn't that hard, but I quickly realized that my trigger for overeating was snacking (especially for emotional reasons) not the type of food I ate. I ended up cutting out snacking (other than planned snacks) but including added sugar in my diet in moderation (a serving of gelato after dinner when I have the calories, that sort of thing).

I'm not unhappy that I experimented with cutting out the added sugar for a while as I think it helped me realize I could eat it in moderation and also helped me with the emotional eating thing.

I did not seek to cut out all sugar and don't personally agree with "sugar detox" programs that go very low sugar and demonize fruit on the grounds that you will magically stop ever wanting your favorite high cal treats if you go through them.
