Best tasting affordable protein powder?

Hey there- looking for suggestions for a good flavored protein powder that I can mix with water. I want it to be high in protein and low in carbs and sugar. potentially good for a meal replacement. I HATED shakeology, could not get over the taste. Suggestions?

Well protein shakes arent really good for meal replacements as they dont have much more than protein in them. Real food in smaller quantities gives you nutrients your body needs. Are you not getting enough protein in your diet? Are you not able to eat meat, dairy, eggs, fish? These all have protein and additional important nutrients your body needs. Now to meet protein goals if im not able to through real food i use Body Fortress 100% Protein Isolate. It taste good, mixes and bakes well. It has 3g of carbs and 1g fat. 140 calories for 30g protein per scoop. I'd say you should focus more on eating less calories but make them nutrient dense calories from real food. Protein powders dont do anything to increase the rate of weight loss. Less calories as a whole does. Good luck.

You can't drink your way to skinny. There's no need to use protein shakes unless you are working out and need the extra protein or are otherwise unable to get anywhere near an acceptance amount of protein from regular diet. I doubt the latter.

I do work out a lot, and occasionally I have a protein shake for breakfast. I don't think the nutritional value is much off from my other regular breakfasts (I eat a very small breakfast - usually instant oatmeal, eggbeaters, one container of fat-free yogurt, or a special K protein bar). I prefer to eat a high-protein breakfast - it seems to stick with me better. I always mix my powder with skim milk though - never water, so that certainly adds nutrition too. I like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard, and BSN Syntha-6. They have delicious flavors now - not at all like the powders from years ago. Check out Amazon and read the reviews to pick out a flavor. Chocolate-peanut butter is one of the most highly regarded I think.

When I was working out faithfully, I was using GNC Pro Performance Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 (choc or vanilla) after a workout. It's passable tasting just in water but I enjoy it much more with strawberries and a half banana. 1 scoop = 20g protein, 90 calories, 2g carbs, 1g sugar. A 3 lb container equals about 52 scoops coming in around $70-80. This is definitely not a meal replacement like Shakeology. There are hardly any calories, fat or fiber to carry you through to your next meal.

When I start working out again, I'm going try it with milk like "fitmom" suggests^^^. Yum!

Note on Shakeology: I went to someone's house for a catalog party and the host lost a lot of weight on this stuff. After counting cals and watching what I was eating for months and months, I was really looking forward to some yummy foods. Instead there was a veggie tray, fruit tray, Shakeology dip and baked goods with it in there. None of it was good tasting so I totally agree with you there ;-)

I like Quest, though they can be a bit pricey. GNC sometimes sells the individual packets as 4 for 3, so you can sample a few and see what you think.
