Stomach acid/digestion question

I'm suffering from occasional reflux flareups, and my GP mentioned the other day that it might as well be caused by too little acid and PPI might be a very bad idea based on the reflux patterns I'd observed. He suggested a baking soda test that was negative, and based on his recommendation I bought betaine hcl capsules. Since I'm taking it I notice some oddities in my weight. I'm eating as usual (been maintaining for over a year).
Since starting to track my weight daily when I started my weight loss journey it was always a bit higher come Thursday to Saturday (water weight), but for some reason this peak has been missing, and my weight is actually lower now than Wednesday, when I started with these pills. Is there any explanation for that? More acid - better digestion - more calories absorbed I'd think. Or less gasses due to less fermentation?
