Hi all,
I'm looking to lose about 20lbs and had my exercise regime going well and diet was getting better, however today at the gym I rolled my ankle which has resulted in an avulsion fracture in my ankle.
How can I keep the weight loss going and my motivation when I can't exercise, I don't cope well on super restrictive calorie diets but all suggestions welcome.
Kx

Sorry to hear you are injured. I broke a foot one summer and it was hard to stay on track. You can lose weight without exercise, but it is pretty mind-numbing to be stuck sitting most of the time. I'd say do some Googling and find upper body workouts. . .try kayaking or canoeing. This time will pass, maybe take the time to learn a lot of new healthy recipes? I think the key for me was to make a lot of plans, and stay busy doing what you can - volunteering might help.0

With an injury like that, you can increase your calories to maintenance -- the body needs fuel to heal.0

I agree with eating at maintenance. You need to heal. Maintaining weight is not a set back at all, so don't look at it that way either.
Think of it as practice for when you hit your goals. For many, eating at maintenance for a week helps kick start the routine again better, faster, and more efficiently than before.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I will try eating at maintenance and making healthy choices for the next few weeks and keep myself busy at night to avoid making bad choices. So gutted as I was making good progress with 3lb off this week0

I've had 8 upper body orthopedic surgeries on the last 6 years. Just back off on your eating. Also get to the gym and do something, upper body weight machines as an example.
Every time after an operation I was back in the gym with a sling doing whatever the doctor said was okay. Could usually do something in 7-10 days when stiches healed. To me helped to be back in the environment.
Best of luck.1 -
Sorry to hear you're injured. How about going for a swim? Not sure if your non weight bearing/partial/ or no restrictions; but non weight bearing excercise; even a gentle swim will be good as a starting point in your recovery if you're not able to do much for a while. Psychologically it may help also!
I was non weight bearing for about 11 weeks back in October after a leg injury. Swimming has really helped in my recovery and after about two months of going twice/three times a week iv lost about 5 inches off my waist and most importantly my leg feels as if nothing happened!
Best of luck, wish you well with your recovery0
